Absolute first “must do” step before even thinking about starting a new business. Ask yourself, “Do I have the mindset of an entrepreneur?” Get out of your head, believe in yourself, and start minding the mental chatter before you create your newest kick-ass venture.
Hi! My name is Christi Murphy, and I am a blogger for the DIY hobbyist turned entrepreneur. I have been fortunate to have had several businesses since my mid 20’s, one of which I still have after 25 years. I have a lot to say that will hopefully inspire you to turn that wonderful talent you’ve got into a financially profitable small business.
I don’t know about you, but I always wanted more than what a regular 9 – 5 job could offer me. I wanted more personal time to raise my daughter while being a SAHM (“stay-at-home-mom”). I dreamed of being my own boss, making my own decisions, and saying “no” to things I didn’t want to do. Oh, and to make a little money too! All good aspirations. But along the way, I found out that with any endeavor, it takes hard work, commitment, and time.
So that’s where I come in. I have over 25 years of experience working for myself. I can share my greatest success stories as well as my biggest failures.
So if you have an awesome idea for a business or a hobby that you want to take to the next level, stick around. Let me share my experience with you.
If you have been brave enough to share your inner urges with your family or friends that you want to start a business, what type of response have you received? I hope your answer is “Great, super, man they sure do believe in me.” But my guess is that you might be getting some negative feedback, funny looks, or maybe even someone saying “That’s a cute little hobby, but you can’t make a lucrative business out of it.” Those words were actually said to me, and to this day, still make me sad and tick me off at the same time. Some left-brainers just don’t get it.
As difficult as it might be, don’t let others’ limitations define you. Some people could not even imagine the thought of charting off into the unknown without the absolute promise of success. If you are really passionate about your idea, then go for it! That being said, be ready to roll up your sleeves and work. I will offer some tried-and-true tips to help you along the way, but ultimately the work has to be done by you! Being self-employed, as wonderful as it can be, is not for wussies.
Starting off, the most important piece of advice I can give you is to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and WATCH YOUR THOUGHTS and WORDS! This is powerful!
Let me say it again. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and WATCH YOUR THOUGHTS and WORDS!
Get out of the headspace that you are lacking what it is you are creating. If you are saying “I want to start a business doing (blank)”, you have already created lack. Take the word “want” out of your vocabulary and replace it with “creating” or “manifesting”. In other words, you are a work in progress. “I am creating a new business doing (blank)” is a much better affirmation to say. Put it out there that you are on a mission to carve out your future and no one can stop you!
Next week I’ll discuss the “#1 tactic for successful entrepreneurs” that will surely put you on firm footing for a promising venture.
